Trinity festival tops
off an amazing summer of music in Hull, thanks to Hull Trinity Church, Oscars
Bar and Warren Records for helping bring it together and supporting local music
and getting everyone ready for the city of culture 2017.
Friday night was not
attended by us but from the videos, pictures and words spoke online from
attendees everyone left with a smile on their face and something to be proud of
as Hull show cased the best talent around.
Saturday was much of
the same but not in a bad way, it showcased some amazing talent in the local
area. Baby Tooth kicked the day off with a punk start before we rocked out to
Demi Mondaines. The Talkdown and Streaming Lights both with a growing fan base
draw in the crowds with their easy going Indi smooth jams. Hands Off Gretel not
only take the biscuit they devour the whole house with their edgy hard-core
sound similar to that of Juliet Louise or Hole. Breeze flash their captivating
tunes as well as their whitest whites before Lake Komo take things back to a
country classic vibe. Affairs and Life both delivered great sets with their own
signature style hammered into the surface outside Trinity church.
All these
were the warm up to essex boys, Eliza & The Bear who were playing their
first ever headline festival show. Although they admitted they were nervous
before going on stage them nerves did not show through as they delivered a
blisteringly amazing set. Their sound is tight and songs are huge as they
convert more fans into the Eliza fold. I managed to grab an interview with them
in Trinity church which was dark, cold and frankly a new experience for me. Big
kudos for the guys for being so approachable and nice, same goes for their
sound guy and Fraser who was their tour manager. 
Sunday seen the day
end in style with lots more singalong and dance along’s. Wayward Suns deliver melting guitar rhythms
while Delta Vega made everything B, B, Better with their catchy, fun and
unmissable set as ever. Eastwood and The Quicksilver Kings excite the audience
with their down to earth blues/acoustic styles, perfect in the autumn sun. Dogwood Flowers and The Fronteers are two
acts to watch out for in the future as they get rapturous applauses from the
audience. Nineties Boy, Luke doesn’t seem to take a break ever! After he has
been hosting all the summer events including this one, he still has time to hit
the stage to perform a half an hour set of his Defining grime/hip-hop sound.
Bud Sugar are also one of them defining sounds from the city of Hull, their set
couldn’t be more engaging as they have a flag bearer, singalongs and their
infamous sign moving its way through the crowd after the set.
The night is
finished off with not one but two well established Ska/Reggie Punk acts. First
up is The Talks who are local lads as well as seasoned touring artists. Playing
an energetic and fun filled set they work the crowd into a frenzy in
anticipation for 1980’s legends, The Beat. The Beat play a standard hit filled
set with the crowd going wild for it and shouting songs out for the band to
play next. They also slip in a cheeky cover version of Rock The Kasbah which
gets everyone feeling left out getting into the party spirit. This is one band
that know how to headline and know how to finish off Hull Trinity Festival 2015
with a bang.
