MON THE BIFFY

Boom! Blast! Ruin! Screams Simon Neil (lead man of Biffy Clyro) from the speakers in Queens Gardens, Edinburgh. “We haven’t played not played a show for every single year as a band” explains Simon and they almost missed out on 2015 but alas they were offered to play the infamous Edinbrough Hogmanay as headliners. Not only could they not resist keeping up their record, they also could not resist demoing new material to a home town audience.

If the band were described as excited to be there then the audience must be in complete euphoria and that they were. Myself and my American beauty are big Biffy fans so deciding to go was like, want to see them play live (am in), play live in Scotland (yeah take my money already), play to reign in the New Year?! (Okay I need to change my underwear). We set off on our annual Christmas trip on an adventure this one was to Scotland and to Hogmanay for the second year. Unfortunately, we couldn’t afford accommodation in Edinbrough but we did stop a stone’s throw away in Glasgow and got to enjoy sights of both cities, with many memories.

On NYE we set off to Edinbrough by driving there and parking up in a great free place and explored some of the city before joining the already huge que for the headline show in Queens gardens, as you might imagen the show sold out almost straight away at a cool £55 per ticket I thought I hope it’s worth it! I myself have seen Biffy three times before, playing two songs on a tv show (was weird and I thought it was a full show), second was Leeds festival and third was supporting foo fighters but never a headline show where they could make it their own. Seeing them for the fourth time was the best time seeing them, they were and are high octane musicians that know how to throw a party! Before their set however, was two support acts representing the best of Scotland. In the first corner was a two piece called Honeyblood who were great but sounded lost within this big forum at present. Second, was long time veterans on the scene Idewild, who showcased their incredible catalogue of songs which are worth checking out.

However, as the lights went down, everybody was screaming in anticipation, shouting mon the biffy as the trio of legends hit the stage and set list straight off with Captain. Everyone was singing along to every word and going crazy for the spectacle they were witnessing, they played a forty five minute set before the final countdown begun, introduced by non-other than the current British astronaut looking down on us.  As the fireworks blasted from the castle walls me and my fiancée embrace and that was the best ever day in my life so far, I could not wish for any more and therefore, this gig goes down as one of the best ever!  With the emotion and loving over, Biffy come back all guns blazing playing a hit filled set for another hour! Including new tune which sounds catchy and epic as ever. As we head to the car we are finished off with Many of Horror ringing in our ears and a huge smile on our faces.
